CMCS, FIDA sign deal to create awareness among farmers

Centre for Media and Communication Studies (CMCS) Saturday (25 December, 2010) signed a partnership agreement with Forum for Information Dissemination on Agriculture (FIDA) to develop media and communication tools to raise awareness among farmers about balanced fertilization.

CMCS Chairman Sohel Manzur and FIDA President Kawsar Rahman signed the deal on behalf of their respective organizations.

The objectives of the collaboration include raising farmers awareness on benefits of using balanced fertilizer, exploring opportunities of balanced fertilizer market, and building a strong network among farmers, market players and all other stakeholders of agri-sector to ensure a much better access to relevant information.

Under the agreement, CMCS and FIDA will organize a consultative meeting, two field trips for journalists, and a roundtable seminar on balanced fertilizer use.

Under the one-year agreement, which took effect on December 15, 2010, both CMCS and FIDA will also mobilize resources to run a TV program on agriculture inputs.

The activities under the agreement will be carried out under a project titled “Market Development in Fertilizer Sector of Bangladesh” being implemented by Innovision Consulting Ltd., as a co-facilitator of Katalyst.

The project includes several interventions; one of them is to raise awareness on benefits of using balanced fertilizer to stimulate demand. CMCS was selected as a partner to implement this part of the intervention.
