Katalyst, CMCS sign media research deal

Centre for Media and Communication Studies (CMCS) signed a media research deal with Katalyst, a multi-donor funding initiative run by Swisscontact and GTZ-IS, on 16 June, 2011 (Thursday).

Under the three-month contract with Katalyst, CMCS is to conduct a content analysis of the national and local level print and electronic media in Bangladesh to ascertain the level of media coverage the SMEs (small and medium enterprises) got in 2010 and compare it with the coverage in 2006 and 2008.

Katalyst conducted the first such study in 2006 prior to launching a series of media interventions aimed at increasing SME coverage in the print and electronic media of Bangladesh.

The main objective of the latest study is to measure the changes in SME coverage as a result of the Katalyst interventions and get information about the sectors getting increased coverage in the media.

The study being conducted by CMCS will look into both quantitative and qualitative aspects of SME coverage in selected national and local print and electronic media, while analyzing the contents and trends under certain parameters.

Samples for the study were selected from the leading national English and Bengali language newspapers, TV channels and radio stations, as well as from selected local level newspapers.

Katalyst, a market development initiative, is funded by DFID and other international donors.
