10 finalists of tvebiomovies 2011 go live on YouTube

Ten finalists films about the environment went live on November 30, 2011 as the tvebiomovies 2011 competition gears up on YouTube.

Out of more than 200 entries sent in by filmmakers across the world, the judging panel last month green-lighted 10 ideas – film and animation – to go into production. Now it’s over to the global public to decide who the tvebiomovies 2011 victors will be – with the five most viewed films winning this year’s competition, said a press release by the TVE (Television for Environment), a partner of CMCS.

As an added dynamic, five celebrity YouTubers will be mentoring the finalists to reach as many viewers as possible.

Entries for tvebiomovies 2011 fall into five categories: water, energy, forests, oceans and people living in harmony with their environment. Each category will have its own winner – giving each finalist a 50:50 chance of winning US$1,500. Now the race is on to notch up the highest number of views until 1 February 2012, when the winners will be announced.

“We are delighted that each of the five celebrity YouTubers who helped launch the competition - Where’s my challenge?, OMFG It’s Jack and Dean, Kick the PJ, Slomozovo and Latvian ProektKOZA - will be mentoring two finalists each,” says Cheryl Campbell, tve executive director. “This will help our film-makers learn how to increase the audiences for their films around the world.”

In addition to being streamed on tve’s YouTube channel www.youtube.com/user/tveInspiringChange, the 10 finalists’ films will also be screened for environment experts attending COP17, the international climate change conference taking place in Durban, South Africa from 28 Nov- 4 Dec 2011. Two of the lucky finalists - from Tunisia and India – are also attending.

The 10 films in competition have been made by filmmakers of all ages, from 15 up – and from across the world: from Hungary, India, Ireland, Peru, Tunisia, Uga nda, the Ukraine, UK and USA. They are a mixture of drama, documentary and animation.

tvebiomovies 2011 is supported by donors including YouTube, WWF-UK, UNEP, the Lighthouse Foundation, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation.
