Organisational Overview

Mission Statement

CMCS is an independent, non-political and non-profit organization, established under a Deed of Trust registered under the Registration Act 1908. CMCS is dedicated towards increasing the professional efficiency of reporters, feature writers, editorial staff and other media professionals, both at national and local levels, in Bangladesh.

CMCS also acts as a watchdog of press freedom and an advocate of the right to information.

The role of media is gaining importance everyday in establishing a safe, peaceful and democratic world. CMCS is committed to carry on relentless efforts to exploit the full potentials of the media through education, research, training, advocacy, consultancy and assistance.

CMCS also works in close cooperation with local and regional media organizations. Building on its extensive international network, CMCS aims to operate as a facilitator and partner in a wide variety of projects that support peace, prosperity and development.

CMCS shall carry out strategically important activities related to the improvement of the standard of journalism, media empowerment, good governance to ensure social justice, people’s voting right and to aware the people against the violation of human rights, social injustice, corruption, terrorism and intimidation, and socio-economic development, which in turn will facilitate a sustainable and equitable improvement of life specially for women, children, religious and ethnic minorities and also the disadvantaged and vulnerable portion of Bangladesh citizens through their increased participation in the socio-economic, cultural and civic activities.

Objectives

The objectives for which CMCS is constituted are as follows:

  1. To provide a platform for journalists to work together for the improvement of their professional standards and to try to adhere to fair professional practices.
  2. To inculcate among journalists the need to maintain high ethical standards and accuracy for enhancing the credibility of a free press.
  3. To promote high quality journalism through imparting training, and providing a forum for discussion, debate, and exchanges of views and experience to the reporters, editors, media executives and other media professionals.
  4. To monitor and study the present and future challenges facing the media and support networks among media professionals within the region and other parts of the world.
  5. To operate as a facilitator and partner in a wide variety of projects that support peace, prosperity and development.
  6. To carry out advocacy and campaign activities to facilitate formulation of good policies and behavioral changes of relevant organizations and institutions in favour of the people of Bangladesh.
Organizational Structure

CMCS is governed by a six-member Board of Trustees. All matters of CMCS are managed under the guidance of the Board, which meets periodically to formulate policies and guidelines, and plan and review programs. The Board includes a chairman, a secretary and a treasurer. The main strength of CMCS is, however, a panel of independent experts, which includes academics, senior journalists and professional trainers, and a network of journalists across Bangladesh.
