Portfolio of Projects
The portfolio of CMCS is mostly filled with works related to media research and impact assessment of development projects. However, in recent times, it has diversified its portfolio both in terms of the nature of projects and partnership. The recently initiated projects are related to advocacy and awareness building in the areas CMCS aimed to focus on as its organizational objectives, such as environment, climate change, new media technology etc. The list of projects is as follows:
Project Title: Develop and broadcast a TV program on agriculture
Period of Implementation: August-December 2011
Partner: Innovision Consulting Private Limited/Katalyst.
Task: Collect and analyze information on SME and agriculture coverage in selected national and regional print and broadcast media in Bangladesh during 2009 and 2010. Do a comparative analysis of the SME coverage with 2008 and 2006, when a similar study was conducted.
Project Title: Business Content Analysis of Mass Media in Bangladesh
Period of Implementation: June-October 2011
Commissioned by: Katalyst.
Task: Collect and analyze information on SME and agriculture coverage in selected national and regional print and broadcast media in Bangladesh during 2009 and 2010. Do a comparative analysis of the SME coverage with 2008 and 2006, when a similar study was conducted.
Project Title: Development of media and communication tools to raise awareness among farmers about balanced use of fertilizer.
Period of Implementation: November 2010-March 2011
Commissioned by: Innovision Consulting Private Limited.
Task: Study fertilizer usage habit and media habit of farmers, sensitize media to report on fertilizer issues, develop media and communication tools for the media and ensure use of the tools by the media to facilitate use of balanced fertilizer by the farmers.
Project Title: Impact assessment of five media interventions implemented by Katalyst.
Period of Implementation: June-December 2010
Commissioned by: Katalyst.
Task: Content analysis of two Jessore newspapers (Gramer Kagoj, Loksamaj), and three TV programs on business (Sudiner Barta produced by UNL, Shilpo Darpon produced by Channel-I, Ekushey Business produced by ETV), interviewing stake holders and beneficiaries, analyse findings and prepare reports on the assessment.
Project Title: Impact assessment of the Bangladesh Quality Support Program (BQSP).
Period of Implementation: May-July 2010
Commissioned by: United Nations Organization for Industrial Developemnt (UNIDO).
Task: Interview stakeholders and beneficiaries in Dhaka, Khulna, Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar, and analyze findings, and prepare an assessment report.
Project Title: Management of the Food Security Investment Forum 2010.
Period of Implementation: April-May 2010
Commissioned by: Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) on behalf of the Ministry of Food of the Government of Bangladesh, with support from USAID, IFPRI, EU, DFID, and FAO.
Task: Arrange logistic and manage resources to organize the event at Sonargaon Hotel, which was attended by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as chief guest. CMCS also published six books under the assignment, which were presented in different sessions of the two-day event.
Project Title: Dissemination of TVE Earth Report series through national TV channels and community level screening.
Period of Implementation: Started in February 2010
Partner: Television Trust for the Environment (TVE) and UNDP Bangladesh
Task: Dubbing TVE Earth Report series in Bengali and dissemination of the reports in Bangladesh through national TV channels and community level screening. The Earth Report series is on different aspects of environment and climate change.
Project Tile: Promoting the use of new media technologies in advocacy and campaign activities by local NGOs.
Period of Implementation: Started in February 2010
Partner: Tactical Technology Collective
Task: Screening of a film on “10 Tactics for Turning Information into Action,” translating the film and 10 Tactics Kit in Bengali and disseminating the Kit among development/advocacy activists.
Project Title: Prepare of a case study on the foundry and agro tools industries in Bogra following increased media attention to the sector
Period of Implementation: September-November, 2009
Commissioned by: Katalyst
Task: Collect and analyze information/data on the changes that have taken place in the foundry and agro tools industry in Bogra following increased media attention to this sector caused by Katalyst interventions.
Project Title: Assess the impact of increased involvement and improvement in business reporting of journalists working for a particular national daily, such as The Daily Star
Period of Implementation: September -November, 2009
Commissioned by: Katalyst
Task: Collect and analyze information/data on the changes that have taken place at the market/enterprise level and SME level following improvement in business reporting of journalists working for the Daily Star newspaper after Katalyst intervention.
Project Title: Assess the impact of introducing a business journalism course at public and private universities
Period of Implementation: September -November, 2009

Task: Collect and analyze information/data on the changes that have taken place in business reporting following introduction of business journalism curriculum in private and public universities under a Katalyst intervention.

Task: Collect and analyze information/data on the changes that have taken place following introduction of a business news segment in the regular news bulletins of a private radio station.
Project Title: Content Analysis of National and Local Level Print and Electronic Media in Bangladesh
